A Lice's Nightmare

A new Danish invention which literally sucks lice out of the hair of children will be for sale in late January and is called The Licesnatcher.

By PIA JUNØ»The Licesnatcher« consists of a mouthpiece which is mounted on an ordinary vacuumcleaner. The mouthpiece includes a comb, a tube, a filter and a small container to collect the living lice.

According to The State Verminlaboratory one in three Danish children have lice one or more times every year. If the child has lice there are also in more than half the cases other infections in the family. This is why families with children spend more than 18 million Dkr. every year on lice treatment.

Lice treatments that far too often do no work. Studies from abroad shows that the lice have become resistant against the most commonly used insecticides. A tendency that experts also acknowledge in Denmark.

The inventor of »The Licesnatcher«, Carsten Høegholm, wonders why there haven't earlier been thought of other treatments than chemical products and combing when considering the magnitude of the problem.

" I had the idea a couple of years ago because I have four daughters who time and again had lice", says Carsten Høegholm. He has received requests from a variety of countries and hopes to enter the World market with his invention.

But first the product is sold through Coop Denmark which among others count the chains Kvivkly and SuperBrugsen. After several years at the The State Verminlaboratory Alice Olsen has looked at many of the products which have been introduced with the promise of solving the lice problem.

"I have heard about "The Licesnathcer" and if it works as advertised then it is good. Because up till now there have been no efficient alternative to thorough manual combing of the hair",  says Alice Olsen to Ritzau.
